POPULAR TOURS

COLCA CANYON TOUR 3D/2N

The canyon is home to the Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus), a species that has seen worldwide effort to preserve it. The condors can be seen at fairly close range as they fly past the canyon walls, and are an increasingly popular attraction. CRUZ DEL CONDOR is a popular tourist stop to view the condors, an overlook where condors soar gracefully on thermals of warm rising from the canyon. The condors are best seen in the early morning, and late afternoon when they are hunting. At this point the canyon floor is 3,960 ft (1,200 m) below the rim of the canyon.

TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1. Arequipa - Cabanaconde - Cruz del Condor - Juan de Chuccho

At 3:00/3:30 hrs. a.m. we will have departure to Cabanaconde in the Colca Canyon, about 6 hours driving from Arequipa. On the way we have a stop for breakfast, later we continue to La Cruz del Condor (this is the best place to see the Canyon and the Condors), after we go on 30 more minutes by transportation to Get in Cabanaconde.

After lunch the trekking downhill starts from 3.300 m.a.s.l. to reach the bottom (3 ½ hours approximately) at an altitude of 2.100 m.a.s.l.
We have dinner and overnight in San Juan de Chuccho (a village in a tropical environment with a lot of vegetation); the accommodation here is in basic rooms (local family places).

DAY 2. Juan de Chuccho - Malata

After breakfast we continue downhill to Cosñirhua town; it's a nice place where you can see and taste honey, produced by local people. It is possible to see arqueological remains around the area left by pre-Inca cultures. Going on flat we reach Malata town with its very old Spanish church design. Then we descent to the deepest part of our trek at 1.900 m.a.s.l., "Sangalle". In this village you can enjoy the swimming pool with a temperature of 20º C.

We have dinner and overnight in bungalows made of bamboo .

DAY 3. Malata - Cabanaconde - Arequipa

At 05.00 a.m. we trek uphill to Cabanaconde Town (3 hours approximately).

After breakfast in Cabanaconde, we go continue to Chivay here is an optional visit to the hot springs "la Calera", with 38°C water temperature, and in Chivay we we have a typical lunch of the region.

After lunch we travel back to Arequipa. On the way we descend from 4.830 m.a.s.l. to 2.325 m.a.s.l. and pass through a National Reserve and Pampa Cañahuas. This is the habit of the four kinds of South American camelides: llama, alpaca, vicuña and huanaco.

At the end of the afternoon we arrive in Arequipa (approximately 18.00).
